He later moved to California, where he found inspiration in the local flora and became known for his use of a palette knife to create richly textured and brightly colored floral compositions. Cox’s work is distinguished by his meticulous attention to natural light and shadow, which brings a lifelike quality to the petals and leaves in his paintings. He believed in making art accessible to everyone, often pricing his works affordably. Throughout his career, Cox remained dedicated to promoting artists’ rights and was a founding member of the Art Workers Coalition.
